Sponge filters, you can't beat them. They are the simplest filter to deal with and a great home for your beneficial bacteria. We used to run a 70gal sponge in our 55 but have switched to two 20gal sponge filters to allow more space for plants. A 20gal sponge in our 30, a 10gal sponge in our culture bin and a 3gal sponge in our 2.5 resurrection tank and our 2.5 betta tank. Highly recommend one of these just for the bacteria housing.
